German businessmen affirm that "Mexico remains an attractive place to invest."

“Mexico remains an attractive place to invest,” with its clear advantages over its northern neighbor in terms of labor and competitive costs, said Johannes Hauser, director general of the Mexican-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce ( Camexa ), to German businesspeople who have expressed recurring concern about whether Mexico remains attractive in light of the United States’ tariff policy.
During various events organized by the German Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Berlin, Hamburg, Aachen, and Mönchengladbach, where interest in trade relations with Mexico was expressed, it was made clear that the country's competitive advantages "have not disappeared."
The director of the private organization admits that while German partners remain cautious about their capital in our country due to US tariff policies, "Mexico remains attractive. This will continue to be our message to German businesses."
And while the Trump administration's policy is to encourage companies to relocate their production to the United States, "there are strong arguments against this for many companies: for example, the high costs involved in relocating and producing in the U.S., the shortage of skilled labor in many sectors, and the obstacles to obtaining work permits for foreign employees," he said.
While Germany remained the largest investor in the auto parts industry during 2023 and 2024 as part of nearshoring, it has dropped to second place so far in 2025 due to caution.
According to CAMEXA 's monthly newsletter, German businessmen questioned whether "Mexico remains attractive in light of the United States' tariff policy."
“Yes, it is. Finally, Mexico's advantages as an investment location haven't disappeared due to the new and often confusing US trade policy. They may have been reduced in some cases, but that probably applies to any other country outside the United States.”
Insecurity worriesGerman businessmen met with members of the National Guard to receive an overview of transportation robberies.
They noted that so far in 2025, through the end of May, 2,653 robberies have been recorded. More than 2,000 of these occurred in the states of Mexico (1,295) and Puebla (736), according to data from the National Guard. Michoacán (191), San Luis Potosí (147), and Nuevo León (73) are close behind.
Representatives of the National Guard reported that, despite the increase in road freight volume between 2018 and 2024, the number of truck robberies decreased significantly: from 13,000 in 2018 to 8,000 in 2024.
They explained that they carry out major programs such as Operation Escalón, where National Guard vehicles escort truck caravans at scheduled times. This service applies to seven routes considered high-risk. For example, on the State of Mexico - Puebla - Veracruz - Tabasco route, escorted caravans are carried out every three hours between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
